TITLE:   Art Teacher
 
QUALIFICATIONS:   
1.         Appropriate Colorado Department of Education certification
2.         Bachelors’ degree with major or minor in art
 
REPORTS TO: Principal
 
JOB GOAL: To develop in each student an interest in and the ability to express himself creatively in visual terms, utilizing skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the student's interests and abilities; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1.         Teach knowledge and skills in art, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history and/or three-dimensional art to secondary students, using courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
2.         Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
3.         Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
4.         Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing, painting and modeling, using standard and/or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
5.         Develop instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and working time.
6.         Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
7.         Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment.
8.         Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
9.         Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
10.        Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings and prepare progress reports.
11.        Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids and maintains required inventory records.
12.        Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the school and community.  May sponsor exhibits from outside sources.
13.        Maintain professional competence through in service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
14.        Maintain an auditable record of student attendance and make daily reports of students absent each period.  Assign citizenship and scholarship marks.
15.        Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
16.        Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
17.        Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
18.        Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
19.        Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
20.        Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
