Salary Range:  $16.60/hr. - $18.54/hr.
Job Goal:
Ensure efficient operations between all buildings and special education (SPED) staff in regard to student services by providing support to the Student Services Director.
Essential Functions:  Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare General and IDEA fund Budgets under the direction of the Student Services Director.
  2. Process Individual Education Plans (IEPs), trip tickets, reimbursements and purchase orders; submit appropriately.
  3. Upload contracts for October count audits.
  4. Prepare and submit SPED state reports and the SPED Federal application.
  5. Monitor and confirm Special Education enrollment.
  6. Maintain list of current SPED staff.
  7. Create, send and receive contracts for service providers and communicate information to Accounting.
  8. Ensure IEPs are submitted for translation, copies mailed to parents and uploaded to student information database.
  9. Track Alternate Assessment information and 504 plans.
  10. Prepare student records for annual scanning and destruction or distribute as requested; prepare Notice of Destruction advertisement for special education records for local print media.
  11. Create requisitions and process purchase orders as needed for supplies, travel, conference, contract payments, and grants.
  12. Register staff for training and make arrangements for lodging as needed.
  13. Maintain and oversee filing system for SPED records.
  14. Create and maintain files for Threat Assessments.
  15. Maintain log for general education records, in/out of moved students and respond to records requests as needed.
  16. Perform accurate and timely general clerical duties.
  17. Provide support to SPED staff in use of student information database.
  18. Manage PaperVision online records system (RMMI).
  19. Attend staff meetings and virtual weekly state report meeting.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associates or higher degree preferred.
  2. Prefer 3-5 years directly related experience in educational setting.
  3. Prefer experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and a reasonable understanding of database data entry and reporting.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Functions:  Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
This position requires a great deal of tracking, sorting and maintaining information and may be working with multiple reporting deadlines. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and facsimile machines.  Job duties would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand as necessary and lift up to 25 lbs.
Sterling is located in Logan County in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the front range (I-25 corridor).
RE-1 Valley School District has two high schools, one middle school, one junior high school, three elementary schools and two preschools and serves approximately 2,200 students in the Sterling and Iliff/Crook areas, employing about 500 staff. RE-1 Valley School District utilizes a 4-day school week schedule (Tuesday-Friday).
