SUMMARY:Colorado’s Long Road to Statehood
DESCRIPTION:Colorado's Long Road to Statehood\n\nHow many times did Colorado try and fail to become a state before finally succeeding? What did mining\, ranching\, agriculture\, and railroads have to do with the decision? And why was statehood such a complicated goal in the first place?\n\nThe Logan County Historical Society invites the public to explore these questions and more at its next meeting on Monday\, November 9\, at 7 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Sterling. In celebration of Colorado's 150th birthday\, Overland Trail Museum curator Kay Rich will present the program titled "Colorado's Long Road to Statehood."\n\nDid you know Colorado's first four attempts at statehood during the 1860s failed? Who should have a voice in the new government? Should mining interests take priority\, or should agriculture\, ranching\, and the expanding railroad industry have a greater say in Colorado's future? What advantages would statehood bring\, and was the territory truly ready to take that step?\n\nJoin us for fascinating stories and little-known facts about Colorado's early years as we celebrate 150 years of statehood. The meeting is open to the public\, and everyone is welcome!
